BISOPROLOL
- Bisoprolol is a selective beta receptor blocker which is used to lower high blood pressure and prevent myocardial infarction and heart failure.
- Bisoprolol acts mainly on beta-1 receptors in the heart to address several heart conditions. It does not affect the undesirable beta-2 receptors which could affect different bodily systems.
- You can not suddenly stop taking bisoprolol without talking to a doctor. Stopping this medication may cause chest pain, arrythmias and even heart attack.
- According to new studies, cardio-selective beta blocker are contra-indicated in patients with severe asthma or COPD, but it is entirely safe in patients with mild disease.
- If you are regularly taking NSAIDS like ibuprofen, naproxen etc then it can interfere with the effect of bisoprolol as NSAIDS can increase the blood pressure.
- Bisoprolol may cause the blood sugar to fall causing hypoglycemia. So, if you are diabetic make sure you are monitoring your blood sugar level.
- Bisoprolol like other beta blockers can influence the central nervous system. Other side effects are anxiety, depression, drowsiness, headache, memory impairment may present in less than 1% cases.
- Alcohol may increase the blood pressure lowering effect of bisoprolol. In can make you feel unsteady. So, do not take alcohol with medication.
